Can You Help Me Break A Pattern?

The question I’m asked a lot is, ‘Can you help me break a pattern that really ingrained or embedded in the way I do things or the way I see the world?’ Yes. I can. A coach, an outside bold voice can break through our little eggshells or bubbles that we put ourselves in, even in our success. We do hide a little bit behind these patterns everything, yes everything you do is based on a set of beliefs. Now that sounds pretty obvious, right? If I believe something then I’m going to go in the direction of that belief. However, most of us are unaware of some of our beliefs. We might know some of them we might even be working on them for 25+ years. Especially those universal beliefs like ‘I’m unworthy’ or ‘I have to be better than the next person’ or ‘there’s no room in this particular world of business or this niche or whatever it is for me’ and ‘who do I think I am?’

These beliefs create a pattern – you’re weaving a perspective that’s very hard to break through so sometimes you chip away at it but what I found is if you can narrow it down – and I think most of us get stuck because we’ve sort of caught our shoe on a nail, so to speak of a particular belief that’s not working for us. And we get stuck there.

For example, one that I worked on myself was “I couldn’t manage money.” I don’t know maybe it’s from childhood you know that doesn’t really matter but it is a clear pattern in my life.

Even though the evidence is contrary – I managed three and four million dollar budgets, I was in charge of many aspects of funding and budgeting and I had no problems with it. But I had certain areas in my life where I still felt challenged around money. Then someone said to me “With a belief like that – I can’t manage money – why would you want to bring money into your life when you can’t manage it? Why would anybody want to bring into their life something that made them feel inadequate?”

That was the beginning for me of a bold new way of looking at patterns and looking at what’s the truth here. Most of us live in a very black-and-white world and patterns are usually about believing that something is black or white – at either end of the spectrum with when the truth generally falls very much in the gray – the middle of the spectrum. When it comes to shifting perspectives we need to see the whole picture – I’m sometimes good with money and sometimes not – and how can you move towards looking at that in an integrated way so now my belief is, “I am really good with money. I managed it in my life” and I seem to produce it very easily.

Perhaps Sinatra said it best – I’ve been a puppet, a poet, a pirate, a pauper, a pawn and yes, a king “… better known as a teacher, trainer, team builder, communications director, and executive-life coach.

This eclectic background – natural curiosity, and love of achieving and support others in doing so have given me an incredible ability to engage participants with commitment and sustainable learning outcomes. I have trained and mentored coaches all over the world and with two prominent coaching consultants including Blanchard Coaching and CoachA.

My practical and earned experience involves facilitating coaching and training for NYS Agencies, the NY State Legislature, several school districts and non-profits, the employee assistance programs of the Capital Region and Magellan Health. Her clients include Time Warner Cable, Flight Centre, Hewlett Packard, the US Department of Labor, Federal Environmental Protection Agency, and Colgate College.

As the former Global Training Director for International Coach Academy, I’ve taught the core competencies of coaching to students in over 90 countries. I have been involved in creating online training platforms, materials for virtual and face-to-face training and facilitation, and executive and team coaching.

I work to infuse fun into my mentoring and training in a well-planned, appropriate, contextual way that relaxes and engages trainees while inputting important information

What Kind Of Coach Am I?

I believe coaching is about waking a person up who wants to be awakened to their greatest potential and ideal life. It’s a partnership. Together we get to the bottom of things – those beliefs, ideas, and perspectives that need shifting and those that need affirmation. If your ego is getting in the way, I’m going to poke a few holes in your story…

I’m not for the faint of heart. What does that mean? I’m not for the faint of spirit or the faint of wisdom. It takes a certain understanding even if you’re frightened or concerned or maybe you’re even still in that ‘I don’t really need this but I’m curious’ space. We, together in partnership, will really get to the bottom line of things, where you’re not in truth with yourself or if you’re kidding yourself. If your ego is in control of the whole enterprise of your life, I’m going to poke a few holes in there because your ego can get you only so far and it’s really important but it’s also often the thing that gets in the way.

For example, if you’re really a good organizer and you’re a good achiever – you make things happen – you might try that strategy with everything in your life and what you’re going to find out is it doesn’t work in relationships or when you’re trying to lead a company. I am going to poke holes in your theories. I’m going to trust that you can take whatever I’m dishing out because you’ve given me permission. And I have no stake in the fight and I’ve no dog in the fight as some people call it.

My only special interest is you. You and what you want.
