What I noticed over the years is that a strong coaching agreement with our clients results in shorter, more powerful and rewarding sessions. With a specific focus for the session, you remind yourself and your client – this isn’t just a casual or friendly conversation. It gives us permission to hone in on the issue, to address any drifting too far afield from the topic, or getting into the ‘story’ rather than who the client is in the situation.

By fine-tuning what the client wants to achieve or have at the end of the session, we are free to keep our end of the bargain – to manage the session with the expressed purpose of following the client’s agenda.
